The flesh and the granite

Synopsis :

Shelomo Selinger, 90, sculpts a monumental work on the subject of the Shoah. The shape emerges slowly from the granite as a fragmented memory might, layered between grand-narrative history and the personal life of Shelomo, one of the few remaining survivors of the concentration camps.

His son, Rami Selinger, a plastic surgeon, wonders: “My father works away at memory in granite, while I work to erase memory in flesh. Because the memory of suffering is a suffering.” Flesh and granite thus become fields of exploration.
